Speak of Auburn softball and the name Tina Deese immediately comes to mind. The architect of the softball program at Auburn, Deese has turned the Tigers into a national power by stressing academics, leadership, hard work and loyalty. Link : More on the Coach |
| Coaching Staff |
Former Major League Baseball player Mark Ryal is in his second season as an assistant coach with the Auburn softball program. Ryal works with Auburn hitters and outfielders. Ryal joins the Tigers' staff after spending the previous season as the head coach at Carl Albert State College in Poteau, Okla. Prior to that, Ryal served as head coach of the Inola (Okla.) High School softball program from 2003-2006.
In his second season as assistant coach with the Tigers, Steve Johnson comes to the Plains after serving as head coach at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. With the Tigers Johnson works with hitters, slappers and infielders. |
| The Program |
Tiger Elite Camp: The Tiger Elite Softball Camp is for elite players entering 8th through 12th grades. The Elite Camp will start on June 13th and run through June 16th. The Tiger Elite Camp is designed for players with extensive high school and/or travel ball experience who aspire to be a college softball player. Elite Campers will receive hands-on instruction from the Auburn coaching staff in all aspects of the game, including throwing, fielding, pitching, catching and hitting. In addition, the Elite Camp will have sessions on recruiting, academic requirements of a college student-athlete, mental training and strength and conditioning. Elite Campers will be divided into groups based on position and go through a skills test evaluation on Sunday night. Morning and afternoon sessions will be dedicated to skill instruction and in the evenings, players will be put onto teams and play games.
Tiger Fundamental Camp: The Tiger Fundamental Camp is for beginning players and younger players entering 3rd through 9th grades. The Tiger Softball Camp will start on June 20th and run through June 23rd. The Tiger Softball Camp is designed for younger players and beginning players. The focus of the Tiger Softball Camp is to teach the fundamentals of softball while having fun at the same time. The campers will be divided into groups based on age. The morning and afternoon sessions will focus on skill instruction in the areas of hitting, fielding, pitching and catching. In the evening, campers will be placed on teams and show off their skills in game situations. |
| Purpose |
The purpose of the Auburn Tiger Softball Camp is to provide an enjoyable and rewarding softball experience for each camper. The camp aids youngsters in developing fundamentals necessary for proper playing techniques in addition to the benefits of teaching sportsmanship and developing friendships. Our emphasis is on the basic fundamentals and essential skills in all phases of softball. Practice time is divided among these phases with individual instruction and attention given to each participant. Teaching aids such as batting tees, pitching machines, and instructional tapes are employed in training. Hard work and fun combine to promote each girls progress. They learn that success is attainable through desire, dedication, and determination, and every effort is made to ensure that the Tiger Softball Camp will be a gratifying and worthwhile experience. |
| Activities |
Activities will include learning the fundamentals of softball, water balloon tosses, water relays, slip and slide, movie night, and visiting the Auburn University Swimming Pool! Enrollment:To ensure quality instruction time for each camper, enrollment is limited. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come basis. Fees for resident campers include instruction, camp t-shirt, excess accident and medical coverage, room and board. Fees for day campers include instruction, camp t-shirt, excess accident and medical coverage, and lunch and dinner. |
| Facilities |
Auburn enters its fourth full season at newly renovated Jane B. Moore Field, home to Tiger softball. Auburn is coming off a program-best 26-5 record at Jane B. Moore Field in 2005. Auburn's 50-18 overall record last season enabled the Tigers to host their first ever NCAA Regional. More than 2,500 fans witnessed the three-day tournament at the picturesque stadium. | Check In/out Schedule |
Elite Camp, June 13-16, entering 8th grade to entering 12th grade. Fundamental Camp, June 20-23 entering 3rd grade to entering 7th grade. Each camp offers Pitcher/Catcher skills, and Fundamental skills and you can attend as a Resident or a Commuter. Check in: Elite Camp is between 2pm-4pm with Camp beginning shortly after Fundamental Camp is between 2pm-4pm with Camp beginning shortly after The check-in location will be the dorms on the Hill. We have not yet been assigned a specific dorm, but all of the dorms are on the Hill and are located together. When you arrive at the dorms, there will be signs and people directing you to the appropriate dorm. Check out for BOTH Camps: Will be at 8:00pm the last day. |
| Medical Attention |
Full-time trainers will be on duty to administer care to minor injuries and sickness. For more serious problems, the East Alabama Medical Center is available. Upon receipt of a campers application, a medical form will be sent out for completion. |
| What to bring |
Participants must provide their gloves, shoes, shorts and hat. Catchers must also bring their catchers gear. A favorite bat & helmet is suggested, but bats and helmets are furnished by the camp. Also, bring a bathing suit. |
